‘Excision’ explores the cultural practice of FGM/C (female genital mutilation/cutting) in Senegal and the attempts being made to end the practice occurring in various parts of the country. The project includes images taken in the Casamance region of Senegal where FGM/C remains a widely adopted practice.

This work attempts to document the young women caught in an evolving social change to end the practice. The images examine the complex relationship between the women and their bodies, in conjunction with the cultural history and social implications of FGM/C in this area. The project is ongoing.
