Orchid Project are a UK based charity founded in 2010 by Julia Lalla-Maharajh.
Their primary aim is to empower communities through various projects and partnership programmes to work to end the social norm of female genital cutting (FGC), seeing an abandonment of the practice within the next generation.
I was commissioned by Orchid Project to document two of their trips to Senegal in 2012 and 2014. These images are taken in the southern Casamance region in Senegal. The photographs include the Senegalese hip hop artist and activist Sister Fa who works in partnership with the charity.
